The print, A Gallant Doolittle Raider was painted by David Lee Sample. It depicts Japanese fighters attacking the fourth Raider aircraft over Japan. Some of the prints are signed by up to five of the Doolittle Raiders including a few signed by Harry McCool who died just before the signing . Signed prints are available at www.windsweptwings.com.Artist Proofs can be purchased directly from the artist by calling 301-698-1851 A few pictures from the signing. The Webmaster's First Encounter With a Doolittle Raider This picture of Doolittle Raider Col. Harry McCool was taken at an airshow at Stinson Field at an airshow years ago. I don't remember much about it, except that Mr. McCool was very nice and the day was a lot of fun. I can't quite figure out why I had such a goofy smile in that picture. The webmaster had way too much fun riding in the 2003 parade with Raider David Thatcher, last surviving crewmember of aircraft #7 (Ted Lawson's crew). Jeep is owned and driven by Mr. Clarence Hanks, who was a CBI veteran himself. |
